How long have you been a self-proclaimed baldie?
I've been bald for about two weeks now. This is my second time shaving my head though!

What made you decide to cut your hair?
I actually have a condition called trichotillomania. It's a hair pulling disorder (not too many people know about it). My entire life, I've been pretty embarrassed and ashamed of this disorder and it took a toll on my self confidence. I had been thinking a couple of months beforehand that I wanted to shave it off and deal with my problem face-to-face to try to eliminate the trich episodes. So, I cut off all my hair. It was the most freeing experience I've ever had and I really love not having hair.
What reservations/fears did you have about cutting your hair?
Definitely being completely bare and whether or not I'd like myself with no hair.
How did you prepare yourself for your hair cut?
I didn't! I came from from University and told my dad I wanted him to shave it off right then and there.
What was your initial reaction to seeing yourself with short hair?
I screamed! I felt a sense of release and a time that I could truly be myself, problems and all!
Did cutting your hair symbolize anything to you?
For me, it symbolizes being mentally healthy and coping with my disorder, I feel like, in a very positive and productive way. I feel like it also symbolizes that I can do whatever the fuck I want because it's my hair and just because I am a woman doesn't mean I have to follow societal standards when it comes to hair and whether I should or shouldn't have it. Someone once told me that a woman that shaves her head is the most rebellious thing she could possibly do, I feel that.
Do you plan on ever growing your hair back out?
Maybe. I feel more like myself with short hair but I do love my afro and the versatility that comes with it.
Did cutting your hair hurt or help your self-confidence?
It definitely helped my self confidence. I'm much more happier and quirkier now that my head is shaved
Do you regret your decision at all?: Hell no.
