How long have you been a self-proclaimed baldie?
I first cut my hair when I was 15 and in high school. So since 2009!
Did anyone inspire you to cut your hair? (include @ name if possible)
I sort of inspired myself. So I started off with shaving half my head and rocked a short Rihanna look. I never really had any true inspiration at the time but my mother has been an OG baldie; So maybe subconsciously I was inspired by her.
What made you decide to cut your hair?: Earlier I mentioned shaving my head partially back in 2009. However, I decided to get rid of all of it in 2013 after I gave birth to my twins.
I grew a beautiful Afro throughout my pregnancy when those hormones did some good for my hair. I did have a lot on my plate turning 19 and caring my two little ones and decided I should take the stress of maintaining my hair, off of my plate. It was the responsible thing to do in my mind because it was a way to save money. I never realized how much money I invested in weaves & installations until I had all that extra cash! It also gave me a sense of control. I could control whether or not I had to stress over what to do with my hair or how much time I had to set aside each day to style it. To some, it may sound small and insignificant but to me, it was a little more of my freedom I got to enjoy.
What reservations/fears did you have about cutting your hair? : I would say I was compulsive when I did it. I never left too much time to worry about cutting my hair like I’m sure a lot of women have thought about. Which I would say was a huge pro because I would’ve maybe talked myself out of it. I can only imagine those women with spouses who might see them differently, or medical reasons that may have prompted the decision to do the big chop. So for me, there were no fears.
How did you prepare yourself for your hair cut?
I was so amped for the change I think all I did was bump trap music on my way to the barbershop.
What was your initial reaction to seeing yourself with short hair?
I could not stop petting the middle of my head to the nape of my neck. Something about that smooth feeling made me feel like the sexiest woman on my block! I finally could say I knew how my guy friends felt after a fresh cut. I just wanted any excuse to go out and show off my cut.
Did cutting your hair symbolize anything to you?
Cutting my hair definitely symbolized starting over. This new chapter in my life deserved a new look from me and cutting my hair did that.
Do you plan on ever growing your hair back out?
I’ve tried to already just for the sake of switching things up, but every time I do I get that itch to cut my hair again. I’ve fallen in love with me having 1 inch of hair at the most. It’s gotten to the point where rocking any other look just doesn’t seem like the real me.
Did cutting your hair hurt or help your self-confidence?
Cutting my hair boosted my confidence for sure. My level of confidence wasn’t even on my radar until the day I actually cut it. Like I mentioned earlier I felt sexy and I wanted the world to see it.
Do you regret your decision at all?
I relieve the feeling allure & attractiveness every two weeks when I sit in my barbers chair. So for me that decision was one I could never regret!
