How long have you been a self-proclaimed baldie?
I shaved my head about 3 weeks ago, before that I had a pixie cut
Did anyone inspire you to cut your hair? (include @ name if possible)
After I watched the movie Nappily Ever After for the first time I was inspired and spontaneously shaved my head
What made you decide to cut your hair?
I was always insecure about the way I looked especially of my hair. I thought to be beautiful I had to have a weave or straightened hair. For years I wore my natural hair under braids and sew ins, until finally grew the courage to get a pixie cut. I was in love with having short hair but that meant constantly relaxing it, straightening it and I even bleached my hair a few times. Now that I’m older I’m finally starting to feel comfortable I’m my own skin. I’m a teacher so I have so many young girls who look up to me and I want to show them that beauty has no limits. So I shaved my head to feel free and to finally be the person I want to be in hopes that young girls will know to love themselves as well
What reservations/fears did you have about cutting your hair?
I was afraid of what people would think or say and I think most of all I was afraid of looking like a boy. But now that I’ve done it I don’t regret it at all.
How did you prepare yourself for your hair cut?
I honestly had to be as spontaneous as possible. I was talking myself out of it for months and finally one night I told my best friend “hey let’s shave my head”
What was your initial reaction to seeing yourself with short hair?
I thought that I was going to start balling honestly, but surprisingly I felt a huge since of relief
Did cutting your hair symbolize anything to you?
Yes it symbolized being free from my insecurities
Do you plan on ever growing your hair back out?
As of right now I’m not to sure, because I would love to grow my hair out to be healthy. But right now im really in love with being a baldie
Did cutting your hair hurt or help your self-confidence?
It helped my self-esteem so much I feel like a new person as cheesy as it sounds.
Do you regret your decision at all?:
No i do not regret it all, this is the best decision I’ve ever made. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fresh start
