How long have you been a self-proclaimed baldie?
Almost two years and I’m never looking back!
Did anyone inspire you to cut your hair? (include @ name if possible)
My mom. When I was a little girl she had a low cut and I loved it so much. I felt like she was so fearless and gangster lol. Today it’s Slick Woods (@slickwoods). I think her buzzcuts and hair colors are gorgeous.
What made you decide to cut your hair?
All three times I did a big chop I felt weight being lifted. I felt like I was too worried about my hair. Also, before I cut my hair I could never stay with one style or color. I felt like that was damaging.
What reservations/fears did you have about cutting your hair?
None. I worked at a salon at the time and my coworker hooked me up.
How did you prepare yourself for your hair cut?
I sort of didn’t have to. I had some of my head shaved already. So I asked my coworker to cut my hair that day, and she thought I meant touch up my undercut. I told her, “All off”. She asked if I was sure and the rest is history.
What was your initial reaction to seeing yourself with short hair?
My initial reaction of getting my hair cut was , “I look like a peanut. A really sexy peanut.” I knew I had made the right choice.
Did cutting your hair symbolize anything to you?
Cutting my hair symbolizes me going against the grain of conformity and it also symbolizes me becoming completely comfortable with who I am regardless of what anyone else says or feels.
Do you plan on ever growing your hair back out?
No. Not at the moment.
Did cutting your hair hurt or help your self-confidence?
Cutting my hair definitely helped my self-confidence. It’s my little secret weapon I use when my anxiety takes over and I don’t feel like myself. A haircut makes me feel better.
Do you regret your decision at all?
No I do not regret cutting my hair at all.
