How long have you been a self-proclaimed baldie?
since March 26th
Did anyone inspire you to cut your hair? (include @ name if possible)
Not really, but I can say that I was influenced by Sydne because she did send me to the shop that I got it cut at, but I had been thinking about it for a while before. I can also say that seeing the entire Baldie Revolution on my TL from time-to-time, did have a positive influence on my decision though.
What made you decide to cut your hair?
This is technically my second "big chop" because my ultimate goal is to have healthy, natural hair and I felt like I wasn't achieving the best growth the first time around. Also, I didn't cut my hair as low as it is now, the first time (in 2013) so I wanted to experience completely short hair at least once before I grew it out.
What reservations/fears did you have about cutting your hair?
Opinionssss. Everyone has an opinion and while I don't really care about them, it is annoying to have to hear them lol. I knew my family, would be the most annoying, especially if I ended up telling them that for some reason I regretted the decision, so that is one reason it took me months to actually do it. Also, I didn't really know if I wanted to just "throw away" 3 hard years of being natural.
How did you prepare yourself for your hair cut?
I looked at so many different cuts (mostly on the Baldie Revolution page or IG) for inspiration and just to see what it was like, for other black girls to make such a drastic change. The fact that so many said they felt "liberated" was interesting because even the first time I cut my hair, I had reservations afterward. So I was basically sold after a while and I knew that if I waited any longer I would punk out, which is why I just cut most of it off by myself before I actually went to see the barber.
What was your initial reaction to seeing yourself with short hair?
"YASSSS! I love it!" Immediately followed by , " wowwww you have NO hair but you look good (lol)"
Did cutting your hair symbolize anything to you?
Not before I did it, but definitely after. I felt so in control of myself that I realized I could do whatever I want. And, that I love myself sooo much.
Do you plan on ever growing your hair back out?
Yes, but I think I want to keep it low for a little while.
Did cutting your hair hurt or help your self confidence?
Definitely gave me a boost I didn't even know I needed. I thank myself every day.
Do you regret your decision at all?
Nope, lowkey wish that I had made it sooner.
