How long have you been a self-proclaimed baldie?
I have been a self proclaimed baldie since 2012 !
Did anyone inspire you to cut your hair? (include @ name if possible)
My mother :)
What made you decide to cut your hair?
In 2012 my mother was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. When she found out she was devastated...afraid...confused...hurt. Now, my mother is naturally a tough cookie, not too much can shake her. When she found out she needed to take chemo and radiation she already knew that meant her hair would be gone..quickly. In good spirits, my mother and I sat down in the bathroom, after she pulled her first clump of hair out , and we decided it was time to shave it. We made the best out of it, making jokes and the whole 9. Once it was all chopped off I looked at her and I swear I had never seen her so beautiful. ALL of the melanated radiance came through. So days go by and I find this ONE thought popping back in my head repeatedly. "Cut it...Cut it....Cut it" (no Migos lol). So I took my self a salon and did something I never would have imagined I would do. Strange part is, is that as my inches of hair fell into my lap I didn't feel afraid. I was not stressed about what I would see in the mirror when I turned around, why? Because I knew the reason for me cutting it casted away ANY insecurities. And I tell you what...I would do it alllllll over again.
What reservations/fears did you have about cutting your hair?
At first I was not sure if my head shape would fit lol. I have a little alien noggin !
How did you prepare yourself for your hair cut?
On my way to the salon I remember thinking "She is going to be shocked' SN: I did not tell my mother about what I was doing.
What was your initial reaction to seeing yourself with short hair?
I was actually very shocked about how well it fit me! I knew I had ultimate confidence in myself, but it still was a nerve wrecking experience. I was so ready for the lady to get done cutting it so I could see. Lol
Did cutting your hair symbolize anything to you?
It did, and still does, symbolize strength. It symbolizes the ability to go against all known norms and be YOU. I also take it as a way to show other young females who are going through cancer or other illnesses that yes sweetie, I support you and I want you to be comfortable to rock that bald head! It's a beautiful thing, embrace it!
Do you plan on ever growing your hair back out?
I have occasional thoughts about it, but there is no better feeling than being a Bald Baddie. Lol. We are a pack of strong ass women who are fierce and bold. I love it.
Did cutting your hair hurt or help your self confidence?
It helped it! It taught me that my hair was just a "mask". When you have no hair people get to see each and every curve and detail of your face. It allows people to get to know you! It's also a great convo starter. But, it definitely boosted my confidence.
Do you regret your decision at all?
NOT ONE DAMN BIT!
