How long have you been a self-proclaimed baldie?

4 years

What made you decide to cut your hair?

I needed a change. I no longer felt any kind of attachment to my hair, I just did it. I didn't think much about it.

What reservations/fears did you have about cutting your hair?

I honestly had none. When I went to the salon everyone was expecting me to cry or get scared, I was just ready. I wanted them to hurry up and do it so I could play with my new hair.

How did you prepare yourself for your hair cut?

I looked up pictures of people who had short blonde hair, specifically Eva Marcille. I was much less concerned with the actual cut than I was with the color and style. I wanted my hair to be exactly like hers. For two years before I cut my hair I had it dyed a dark ash blonde color, and I wanted to keep it like that.

What was your initial reaction to seeing yourself with short hair?

I didn't feel much. I didn't really like the way they cut it at the salon so I went home and cut some more off immediately. Ever since then I've always cut my own hair, because only I know exactly what I want. The only thing that shocked me was when I washed my hair for the first time after cutting it, I wasn't used to having so little.

Did cutting your hair symbolize anything to you?

It symbolized me letting go of who I was. I was so concerned with how I appeared to others that I got lost in my "image". All of that really doesn't make a difference, I wish I could tell people that. Coming to college helped me realize that there are so many other important things you should worry about. Hair is fun and you should be fearless when it comes to expressing yourself, don't worry about what others think of you.

Do you plan on ever growing your hair back out?

Probably not.

Did cutting your hair hurt or help your self confidence?

It helped me gain a ton more confidence! I feel so comfortable and at ease with this hairstyle. I like what this style does for my whole look/aesthetic, it definitely has helped me mold into who I am today.

Do you regret your decision at all?

Nope.
